Back to School Means Cold is Coming

Back to School Means Back to Heating Homework

The kids are heading back to school, which means the summer chaos is finally starting to settle down.

The beach bags are getting put away. Vacations are wrapping up. Routines are returning. And before long, the summer heat will be on its way out, too.

So while you’re out buying rulers, notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and everything else on the school supply list, add one more important item to your end-of-summer checklist: Heating maintenance.

It may seem a little early to think about turning on the heat, but that’s exactly why now is a great time to have your heating system checked. You want to find a problem in September, not on the first freezing night of winter.

Give Your Heating System Its Annual Checkup

Just like the kids need to be ready for a new school year, your heating system needs to be ready for another heating season.

Hillside services many types and brands of home heating systems, including furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and ductless systems.

During regular heating maintenance, our technicians inspect system controls, clean and adjust equipment, check key components, and identify potential problems before they lead to larger repairs.

A clean, well-maintained heating system can operate more efficiently, last longer, and help reduce the chance of an unexpected breakdown when you need it most.

Your Back-to-School Heating Homework

The kids aren’t the only ones getting homework this fall. Homeowners have a few assignments, too.

1. Clean or replace your air filter.
A dirty air filter can restrict airflow and make your HVAC system work harder than necessary. Check it regularly and replace or clean it when needed.

2. Check your heating oil level.
If you heat your home with oil, take a look at your tank gauge now. You don’t want the first cold night of the season to arrive with an almost-empty tank.

Already on Hillside’s Worry-Free Winter Plan? Even better. That’s one less assignment on your homework list.

3. Schedule your heating maintenance.
Don’t wait until everyone turns on their heat at once. Scheduling your maintenance now gives you time to identify and address potential problems before colder weather arrives.

What About Your Heating Oil Tank

Here’s one more item for extra credit.

If your home is heated with oil and your tank is aging, now is also a good time to have it inspected.

Hillside can remove and replace older fuel oil tanks, including traditional steel tanks, and install modern Roth double-wall tanks.

Taking care of an aging tank before there’s a problem can save you from a much bigger headache later.

Get an A+ in Winter Preparedness

Take care of your heating homework now, and when that first cold morning arrives, your house will be ready for class.

Consider it an A+ in winter preparedness.

Schedule your heating maintenance with Hillside today, then get back to enjoying those last warm days of summer.

School’s back. Summer’s winding down. And heating season will be here before you know it.
