Surviving A Snowy Winter

heat pump in February

What a winter. This season brought colder temperatures, steady snow, and real challenges across Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Our phones were ringing off the hook during peak cold stretches, and while our team worked around the clock, there were times we simply couldn’t get oil to every customer exactly when they needed it due to demand and weather conditions.

The one exception?

Our automatic delivery customers, who stayed supplied without interruption.

We wanted to write this as a takeaway for future winters, whether they’re mild or blistering, because preparation and the right plan make all the difference when temperatures drop.

New Castle County, DE Snow Totals

This winter, Delaware’s official reporting station at Wilmington Airport recorded 24 inches of snowfall through February 25, 2026.

For comparison, Wilmington’s long-term seasonal average is 16.4 inches, meaning this winter is currently running 7.6 inches above normal.

Based on official data, the 2025–2026 winter season in Delaware has been significantly snowier than average.

Chester County, PA Winter Snow Totals

It has been a notably active winter in Pennsylvania. At the state’s primary reporting station, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), the city recorded approximately 30 inches of total snowfall as of February 25, 2026.

This total exceeds Philadelphia’s 30-year seasonal average of 23.1 inches, making the 2025–2026 season the snowiest winter since 2013–2014.

Cecil County, MD Winter Snow Totals

It has been a notably active winter in Cecil County, Maryland. As of February 25, 2026, the county recorded approximately 22 inches of total snowfall for the season.

This total sits right in line with the county’s typical seasonal average of 20–22 inches. While southern areas such as Cecilton experienced more mixed precipitation, northern parts of the county, including Elkton and Rising Sun, accounted for much of the snowfall accumulation.

Why Automatic Delivery and Budget Billing Make Winter Easier

Cold, snowy winters can be stressful for homeowners who heat with oil. We had many customers and non-customers scrambling for heating oil after they ran out. Running low on heating oil during a snowstorm or facing an unexpectedly high heating bill in the coldest month is no fun. This is why Automatic Heating Oil Delivery and Budget Billing are such smart choices in winter.

With automatic delivery, Hillside Oil keeps track of your fuel level and makes sure you never run out of oil – even during big snowstorms or deep freezes. You won’t have to monitor the tank or call for emergency deliveries when roads are icy. And with the budget billing plan, you can spread your heating costs out evenly, avoiding those giant one-time bills in mid-winter.

Without a budget plan, you might encounter surprise heating costs that strain your finances and even risk running out of fuel during the coldest months. Hillside’s FREE automatic delivery and monthly budget billing take away those worries. You’ll never have to stress about running out of heating oil or getting hit with huge bills in the winter. No more checking the tank in a blizzard, and no more “sticker shock” from a massive fuel delivery bill – instead, you get reliable service and predictable monthly payments. This keeps you safe, warm, and worry-free on even the snowiest winter days.
